ABOUT THE VILLAGE BREAK
Sometimes a few hours can make a big difference.
Ayan Abdullahi and Dr. Kadija Mussa are bringing together their experience in family education, child development, operations, mental health, and community-based services to create another option. The Village Break is being developed around the practical rhythms of family life: a few hours of care, a place for parents, and a welcoming community.

To give families flexible, dependable support by creating a welcoming place where children are cared for and parents have time to work, rest, and attend to everyday life.
Children need care. Parents do too.
We see children as part of a family, not apart from one. Our approach makes room for both a child’s need for nurture, structure, and play and a caregiver’s need for support and time.
We want parents to feel comfortable telling us what matters to their family. Familiar routines, respectful communication, and an understanding of family and cultural differences will guide the environment we are working to create.
A place for different kinds of families
The Village Break is being designed with remote and hybrid workers, stay-at-home caregivers, students, and new and postpartum parents in mind. It is also being shaped by an understanding of the experiences of East African and immigrant families in Minneapolis.
Families from all backgrounds are welcome. We want this to be a place where parents feel respected, children feel included, and asking for support feels ordinary.

Built with families, not just for them
Before we finalize our location, schedule, and memberships, we want to hear from you. Tell us what would make The Village Break useful to your family.
